They really know the Bay Area and they got into the narrow streets of Tiburon and they knew how to manage multiple trucks. They never broke a thing.

The people are real, wholesome, honest people. My son left a big wad of cash in one of the drawers and they handed it to me saying that they were not able to move cash.

I have told many that it is personable, professional, and I have used them almost about a dozen times and they have always been a '10' out of '10'.

The crews who moved me were consistent, and more often than not, Mike and his crew have come out. They are as friendly and professional as you can get.

Probably the best experience in moving in my life

I like the people who came to my house and helped move. They were professional, kind, and understanding. I had them send the same people the second time because they were so good.

Darcy Quinn: An Early Involvement

By James Florence, Diamond Certified Resource Reporter

NOVATO — Darcy Quinn has been working in the moving industry since she graduated college, but her initial involvement goes back even further. “My dad has worked for Bekins Van Lines since 1966, so I grew up around the business,” she explains. “When I was a little girl, I would go with him on weekends when he was managing office moves—he would pay me 25 cents a day to help out. Later, during high school and college, I continued to work with him during summer and winter breaks. In 2000, around the same time I graduated from college, he purchased the Novato Bekins Agency from Bekins Van Lines and invited me to be his office manager. I’ve been here ever since.”

Today as owner of A and P Moving, Inc. (which she co-owns with her father, Dale, and brother, Darin), Darcy says her favorite part of her job is the opportunity to interact with a variety of people. “I meet people from all walks of life, which keeps things interesting. Most of the people we move are going through some kind of life transition, so it’s rewarding and often inspiring to be a part of that.”

A resident of Novato (where she lives with her husband, Pat, and their two children), Darcy spends her time outside of work on a variety of active pastimes. “I love going hiking and running on local trails with our Australian Cattle Dog,” she details. “I also love music, as does my husband, so we enjoy going to concerts together. As far as family activities go, we like going to the beach and attending sports events.”

In regard to a professional philosophy, Darcy espouses the value of treating others like family. “We’re family-oriented people and that’s how we run our company,” she says. “I think the main reason we have such a loyal employee base is because we don’t view them as numbers but as valuable members of our company family. This philosophy also extends to how we interact with our customers. Ultimately, I think it comes down to respect. Regardless of the level of employee or size of the job, we aim to treat everyone with an equal amount of respect.”

When asked the first thing she’d do if she were to retire tomorrow, Darcy says she’d volunteer her time to a good cause. “I’ve always wanted to work with a nonprofit that benefits underprivileged people. Last year, my daughter and I volunteered at St. Anthony’s Soup Kitchen in San Francisco, and it was a very rewarding experience. It just felt good to make a difference in the lives of others and help them see there is hope beyond their current circumstances. So, if I were to retire from full-time work, I would definitely volunteer for a program like that on a more permanent basis.”

Ask Me Anything!

Q: What’s your favorite local restaurant?

A: Sol Food in San Rafael.

Q: What’s your favorite thing to do on a rainy day?

A: Go running with my dog.

Q: Do you collect anything?

Q: What’s your favorite magazine?

A: “Vanity Fair” because it has a little bit of everything. It has the juicy gossip, but it also has relevant stories about what’s going on in society today.

  • Planning Ahead for a Move

NOVATO — When planning for a relocation, the biggest mistake people make is waiting until the last minute to contact a moving company. Movers’ schedules fill up quickly, especially during the peak season, which runs from April through September. If you don’t plan ahead, you could wind up with limited options. To avoid this, be sure to contact a mover at least two to three months before your moving date.

When you call a moving company, the first thing they’ll have you do is schedule an onsite inspection appointment. During this appointment, the relocation consultant will perform a walkthrough and “needs analysis” of your residence. This will help the company get an idea of what the job will require and create an accurate cost estimate.

Ideally, you should get estimates from three different moving companies—this will give you the chance to compare prices and assess value. Once you decide on a mover, get that moving date booked as soon as possible. Remember that the further in advance you plan, the more options you’ll have for choosing a mover.

NOVATO — Host, Sarah Rutan: When it comes to relocating, proper planning can help ensure a smooth move. To learn more, we’re in Novato with Scott Kerr of A and P Moving, speaking on behalf of Diamond Certified Expert Contributor Darcy Quinn.

Scott Kerr: When planning to use a moving company, you want to make sure you call the moving company two to three months prior to your moving date. It’s very important to get your moving date booked and set up, especially if you’re planning on moving during the peak season. In our industry, that’s the middle of April through the middle of September.

You are going to want to call the moving company and have a relocation consultant come out to your residence to do a walk-through and a needs-analysis of your place. This will help the movers plan accordingly for your move, and also give you an estimate of cost so you can budget for the relocation. You want to make sure, once you’ve had your estimates and you’ve decided on a mover, to get that moving date booked. Most movers are going to be booked in the summertime, so with a little bit of planning and forethought you should be able to have a smooth move and make this transition much easier.

They are great to work with and it was easy. The crew was fabulous and they have moved me all over. I have all of my records stored with them and I have found them very easy to work with. We had a few corners we had to deal with. I am happy with them and I have been using them for a long time and I would definitely recommend them.

We discussed what had to be done and it all got done properly. Not only was I moving my office furniture, but I was moving my records as well and they were good. It was easy and no one screamed at each other. They were good guys. I have a little driveway that is not flat that they had to come up. My desk went out the back door. I would highly recommend them.

I would recommend them. I have moved across the country. I have used a lot of moving companies, including local ones.

I found them to be very professional and their rates were good. I had experiences in the past where there was a smaller crew and it would stretch out for 8 hours, but this company sent a good crew and they did not calculate it in the same way. They just care about knocking it right out.
