Jason Webb: Turf Impressions

SAN RAMON — When Jason Webb started working in the home improvement industry, he was handling a broad range of projects, but when an opportunity arose to cater to a niche market, he couldn’t resist. “Initially, this company was a building and landscaping firm,” he explains. “In 2006, a client asked us to install a synthetic lawn, and when we started doing research, we realized there wasn’t a service-oriented contracting firm that specialized in synthetic turf. Essentially, we saw a void that needed to be filled, so in 2009, we narrowed our focus from general building and landscaping to solely installing synthetic turf.”
Today, as owner of Artificial Grass Pros, Jason says his favorite part of his job is watching the rapid transformations that take place in his clients’ yards. “I really enjoy being able to make a big change in a relatively fast manner. In most other industries, it takes a while to get that ‘wow’ factor, but in this line of work, we’re able to do it in a period of two to four days.”
A Bay Area native, Jason expresses his appreciation for life in Danville, where he resides with his wife, Lauren, and their daughter, Savannah. “I love being part of and having the support of my community,” he says. “Our company sponsors local organizations like Little League baseball and donates turf to batting cages around town, and we really enjoy giving back to the community in those ways.”
Outside of work, Jason engages in a variety of pastimes, from off-road and water sports to performing maintenance on his property. “We have some acreage that needs a lot of upkeep, plus we have horses, chickens and miniature donkeys, so working around the property is kind of my therapy,” he says. “I also like working on my vintage cars. I have a 1973 Toyota Land Cruiser that I take four-wheeling, a 1953 Chevrolet pickup and a 1947 Dodge hay truck, so I spend a fair amount of time keeping those vehicles maintained.”
In regard to his life and career, Jason believes personal integrity is a crucial component of true success. “Whether in your personal life or your business, I think it’s important to conduct all things in an honest manner,” he says. “That way, at the end of the day, you can go to sleep knowing you did the best you could and treated everybody right.”
When asked the first thing he’d do if he could retire tomorrow, Jason says he’d spend some quality time at home before embarking on his next entrepreneurial endeavor. “I’m sure most people say they’d fly away to a far-off land, but honestly, I would love a week to just be at home so I could relax with my family and get some things done around my property. After that, I’d probably look into starting a new business. I’ve always wanted to open an old-fashioned country store, with a big front porch where kids could hang out with their sodas, just like the good old days.”
