Comparative Summary

Maintaining customer satisfaction is a crucial aspect of any business, but it’s even more important for attic and crawl space cleaning companies that have earned the prestigious Diamond Certified award. For Attic Pros, the key to keeping customers happy is simple: take the time to make sure every aspect of its work has been performed as promised. “Our clients know that whenever they call us, we’ll be there to resolve their issues,” says owner Leo Molchanov. “Our goal is to achieve 100 percent customer satisfaction on every job.”

Attic Pros has been cleaning attics and crawl spaces, replacing insulation, installing attic fans and radiant barriers, and providing other services that improve indoor air quality for residential clients throughout the Greater Bay Area since 2012. The company also removes animal waste and damaged insulation, and its technicians are available seven days a week for the convenience of its customers.

Unlike attic and crawl space cleaning companies that hire inexperienced workers in an effort to reduce their operating costs, Attic Pros employs highly trained technicians who have several years of industry experience. “Everyone who works here is friendly and trained to work on each home as if it was their own,” says Mr. Molchanov. “Also, every jobsite is run by a supervisor who makes sure the work is being completed to our high standards.”

Attic Pros further differentiates itself from its competition by performing follow-up inspections after its projects are complete. “We go back two to three weeks after we finish a job to make sure everything was done as promised,” says Mr. Molchanov. “In addition, we offer a five-year labor warranty for rodent proofing and insulation installation, so our clients can rest assured that they won’t have any more issues with their attics or crawl spaces.”

Industry Info

Why hire a professional attic cleaning service?

As with many home improvement services, attic cleaning can be done by just about anyone, but there are several reasons why hiring an attic cleaning company is a better option. “Some people hear rodents scratching around in their attics, which requires the attention of a professional,” explains Leo Molchanov, owner of Attic Pros, Inc. in Oakland. “Other people want to save money on their energy bills by installing insulation or attic fans.”

Here are some more reasons for hiring a professional attic cleaning company:

DIY can be a mess
Attics are usually full of stored items, insulation and wiring, so homeowners who try to clean their own attics may find that they’re in over their heads. Add to that the frequent presence of rodents and it’s rare to find a homeowner who is able to address all of the needs of their attic or crawl space. Professionals have the tools, knowledge and skills to clean up tough messes.

Rodent removal, cleanup and prevention
Rodents love attics and crawl spaces, and once one makes its way into your home, many more will likely follow. Professional attic cleaning companies can clean rodent messes, sanitize the area, and block holes and entry points to prevent reinfestation.

Better home efficiency
Professional attic cleaning services have a range of options to help make your home more energy-efficient. This can save you money over the long run and make your home more comfortable year-round. Along with cleaning your attic and crawl space, most professionals can replace insulation and install attic fans or moisture barriers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can you stop rodents from getting into my attic?
A: Yes. We’ll repair holes in your attic and secure the openings so rodents can’t get in anymore. We use steel mesh wire because it’s the most reliable and durable material that we’ve found.

Q: What types of insulation do you install?
A: We work with many types of insulation, including fiberglass and blown-in products. Once we determine your needs, we’ll explain your insulation options.

Q: Can you install attic fans?
A: Yes. Attic fans are in demand right now because more people are concerned about their high energy bills. The new models of attic fans are very powerful and efficient, so it might be a good idea to install one in your home, depending on your energy needs.

Q: What can you do for my attic space?
A: We can clean your attic, install new insulation and make your home more energy-efficient.

Q: Will my job qualify for rebates?
A: It depends on the location of your home and the type of work. Once we determine the specifics of your job, we can find out if there are any applicable rebates from your city or the state.

Leo Molchanov: A Natural Extension

By James Florence, Diamond Certified Resource Reporter

OAKLAND — When Leo Molchanov started cleaning attics and crawl spaces, it was just a natural extension of the work he was already doing. “In 2008, I came to the U.S. from Ukraine, where I’d worked as an electrician,” he recounts. “As I considered my career options, I noticed that there was a lot of demand for air duct cleaning, so I decided to start my own business. In the course of cleaning air ducts, I found that many of my customers had issues with their attics and crawl spaces. Some just needed these areas cleaned, but others had issues with rodents and energy efficiency. I saw this as an opportunity and decided to extend our services to include attic and crawl space cleaning and improvements.”

Today, as owner of Attic Pros, Inc., Leo says his favorite part of his job is making a positive impact on his customers’ lives. “I enjoy helping our customers, whether by replacing their attic insulation to reduce their energy costs or getting rid of unwanted critters so they can sleep at night. It’s a very satisfying feeling to know you’ve improved someone’s quality of life.”

A resident of Oakland (where he lives with his wife, Maria), Leo spends his time outside of work on a variety of pastimes. “I do a lot of physical activities to stay fit, like boxing and swimming,” he details. “On weekends, Maria and I enjoy going hiking or spending a day at the lake. She’s a fashion designer, so sometimes I’ll go with her to fashion parties.”

In regard to a professional philosophy, Leo believes the key to having happy customers is having happy employees. “We do our best to keep our employees happy because we know they’ll transfer that happiness to our clients,” he explains. “That’s why we try to maintain a positive working environment and make sure our employees feel well-treated.”

When asked the first thing he’d do if he were to retire tomorrow, Leo says he’d probably get another job. “Even if I could retire, what would I do?” he laughs. “You know how it is: you go on vacation and after a week you’re bored. So, even if I retired from this business, I’d probably just go into another service-oriented field.”

Ask Me Anything!

A: I’m an early bird.

Q: What’s your favorite book?

A: “The E-Myth” by Michael Gerber.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

A: The Philippines.

Q: Music or talk radio?

A: Music.

  • Replacing Your Attic Insulation

OAKLAND — Does the inside of your home get hot in the summer and cold in the winter? One thing to check is the condition of your attic insulation. The attic is the first place where conditioned air escapes to, so if yours isn’t properly insulated, it can be difficult to maintain a comfortable indoor climate. It can also require your furnace or air conditioner to work harder to maintain your desired temperature. If your attic insulation is thin, outdated or in generally poor condition, you should consider replacing it. Not only will your home be more comfortable in the warmer and cooler seasons, but you’ll save money due to reduced energy bills.

    Types of Insulation
There are two types of insulation commonly used in attics. One is batting insulation, which comes in the form of large blankets or “batts.” The other is blown-in insulation. Instead of large, uniform blankets, blown-in insulation consists of loose pieces of insulation that are literally blown into the attic with a machine. The advantage of this type of insulation is that it can fill in smaller gaps.

Both batting and blow-in insulation can be effective for insulating your attic, so the one you choose will depend on your attic’s structure and how accessible it is. Your insulation contractor can help you determine the best choice for your situation.

    The Insulation Replacement Process
The process of replacing attic insulation is fairly simple. After assessing the attic for any potential hazards, a contractor will use a large vacuum to remove the old insulation. Next, they’ll air seal the attic space using expansive foam and caulking; this will help prevent air leakage and improve energy efficiency. If your attic had any signs of rodent infestation, the contractor will also disinfect the area to eliminate any hazardous germs and foul odors. Finally, they’ll install the new installation.

  • Two Ways to Keep Rodents Out of Your Attic and Crawl Space

OAKLAND — When rodents infest an attic or a crawl space, it can cause a lot of issues, from unwanted noise to unsanitary conditions. The best way to keep rodents out of these areas is to take preventative measures. Consider the following tips:

Seal exterior openings. The easiest way for rodents to access an attic or a crawl space is through gaps in the home exterior. Some common examples of this are damaged vent screens and gaps around air conditioning pipes. To eliminate these and similar sources of entry, walk around your home and address any problem areas you find. Besides repairing (or replacing) any damaged vent screens, fill gaps around piping with steel wool or by fitting a wire screen over the area. Don’t use caulk or expansive foam to seal gaps—rodents will simply chew through it. Remember, it only takes a very small hole for a rodent to access your home, so don’t take any chances.

Trim back nearby trees. A common catalyst for rodents to gain entry to an attic is tree limbs that are touching or growing near the roof. This creates a direct path for rodents to get up on the roof, at which point they can easily find their way into the attic. To prevent this, regularly trim all tree limbs growing near your roof to maintain a proximity of at least three feet.

    Complete Video Transcription

OAKLAND — Leo Molchanov: If your house feels hot in the summer or feels cold in the winter, the first thing you want to check is how thick is the insulation in your attic? The attic is the number one energy escaping source from your, at your house. So, the first thing you want to check is the thickness of the insulation. And the second thing you want to check if one of your air ducts in the attic, they could possibly been disconnected or they’ve been damaged by rodents or because of their age, if they’re old, so that’s possibly why it’s getting hot in the summer and the cold in the winter.

    Complete Video Transcription

OAKLAND — Host, Sarah Rutan: One way to prevent a pest infestation in your attic or crawl space is to identify and seal any exterior entry points. Today we’re in Oakland with Diamond Certified Expert Contributor Leo Molchanov of Attic Pros to learn more.

Diamond Certified Expert Contributor, Leo Molchanov: So, we would like to give you couple tips how to protect your house from unwanted critters to coming into your crawl space or into your attic space. By simply walking around your house, you want to pay attention by the air conditioning pipes. Check it out around those pipes. Maybe there is some possible openings, especially when other constructors working at your house, they might left some gaps around the AC pipes. Also, check it out your vent screens; make sure they are secure to the mesh wire.

And check it out the trees. Trees hanging out by your house. They should be away- at least three-four feet away from the house. Also, you can check it out the wood structure of your house. If there is anything under that structure. By doing this, in the long run, you will save time and money to deal with the rodent infestations in the future.

I tell all my neighbors about them. The original estimate, explanation, photographs and everything were all done well. They knew what they were doing. The follow up is rapid and was the same rate of responsiveness and style of the people that did the installation.

Shaw is the best person in the company and ran all of the interference. They weren't smoking or playing loud music, and when they finished the first day, they cleaned the yard. It looked better than when they got here. They were well behaved and even left to eat, which I thought was high class of them. When the group came out, there was a contact person who had good language skills who could communicate with both me and the crew. It looks perfect. The handyman who built the cover for the crawl space onsite did a beautiful job with good quality material. Everybody has been really impressed when they come over.
