I would use them again. They are a family owned business that's very friendly. I believe the wife also does receptionist duty as well, and she always returned my calls as soon as she could, even if after hours.

They were efficient, honest and didn't keep me waiting. They had someone out to inspect my roof right away. They took pictures and were very thorough in explaining what was going on. They got me on the schedule quickly and got the job done. Plus, they were very fair. I was dissatisfied with a different roofing company that I had used before and just went on Yelp and found Davis.

Comparative Summary

Maintaining customer satisfaction is a crucial aspect of any business, but it’s even more important for roofing contractors that have earned the prestigious Diamond Certified award. For Davis Roofing Group, the key to keeping clients happy is simple: take a personalized approach to every project, regardless of the extent of the work. “Customer satisfaction is very important to us, so we remain professional throughout the entire roofing process,” says Treasurer/Secretary Cintra Davis. “Our clients aren’t just numbers to us—they’re people who truly care about their homes and businesses, so we take the time to make sure they’re completely satisfied with our work.”

Davis Roofing Group has been providing roofing services for residential and commercial clients throughout Sacramento County since 2017. The family-owned and operated company has the training and equipment to handle everything from reroofing, repairs and maintenance to debris removal and gutter cleaning.

Unlike roofing companies whose owners delegate project management responsibilities to less experienced employees, Davis Roofing Group provides every job with the hands-on expertise of President Michael Davis. “Michael is a perfectionist, so he does a thorough walkthrough after each project to make sure everything has been done correctly,” explains Mrs. Davis. “We also have a foreman who grew up working with Michael and shares his detail-oriented mentality, which means our clients can always expect the best possible quality control.”

Ultimately, Mrs. Davis sees Davis Roofing Group’s professional, straightforward approach to roofing as its most important attribute. “We don’t like the ‘sales approach’ where you pressure a client to sign a contract right away—we prefer to get to know our customers on a personal level so they can see exactly why we’re the best choice,” she says. “They know we’ll always be available to return their phone calls and answer their questions, and that really makes a difference when it comes to their overall experience.”

Industry Info

If you’re looking to install a new roof on your house, consider the benefits of a cool roof.

For the past decade, new and replacement roofs have been required to comply with updated environmentally-friendly standards (per Title 24 legislation). Fortunately, the roofing industry has kept in step with these changes and developed roofing materials that both comply with the law and surpass their predecessors in terms of aesthetics and functionality. A roof that’s constructed with these types of materials is called a “cool roof.”

“Cool roofs are now required in just about every city and county we work in,” says Cintra Davis, treasurer/secretary of Davis Roofing Group in Galt. “Anything we install has to be cool roof compliant with either cool roof shingles or a radiant barrier OSB.”

Cool roofs are characterized by a high level of performance in two aspects: solar reflectance and thermal emittance. Both the lightness of color and specific composition of the roofing materials account for their ability to simultaneously reflect light and deflect heat. In comparison with a traditional roof, which features dark shingles that absorb and retain heat rather than reflect and release it, a cool roof will typically remain 50 to 60 degrees cooler during hot weather.

This reduction of roof temperatures presents numerous benefits for both homeowners and the environment. For homeowners, it means a significant decrease in energy costs (due to less air conditioning usage) and maintenance costs, as cool roofing practices both increase a roof’s life expectancy and make for easier replacement. For the environment, it means less energy usage and a relief of the “urban heat island effect,” which is an incremental increase in air temperature caused by the collective heat retention of a community’s roofs.

Even though Title 24 requires all new and replacement roofs to comply with updated standards, some homeowners still don’t want to use these newer roofing materials because of aesthetic preferences. Fortunately, the legislation allows for alternative ways of meeting the regulation. In essence, the goal of Title 24 is to ensure homes achieve a Solar Reflective Index (SRI) rating of less than 16. Since the law is primarily looking for a number, as long as your home achieves the desired SRI, it doesn’t matter how you do it. To achieve a compliant SRI rating as economically as possible without converting to a cool roof, try improving your attic ventilation.

“One of the easiest ways to improve attic insulation is to install vents on the roof, but if you don’t like the way those look, you should consider a ‘vent-a-ridge,’ which goes along the entire ridge line of the home,” says Mrs. Davis. “Ridge cap shingles can be installed right on top, so hot air can escape from the attic but can’t enter.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you cover dry rot?
A: Yes, dry rot is written into our contracts.

Q: Is there really a difference between GAF shingles and Owens Corning shingles?
A: The shingles themselves are basically the same, but we use GAF shingles because they have a much better warranty. Owens Corning shingles typically come with a limited lifetime warranty, but GAF covers 100 percent of the labor and materials for a 25- to 30-year period.

Q: What kind of underlayment do you use?
A: We use GAF Tiger Paw or Deck-Armor underlayment. They’re synthetic products, so they act as moisture barriers and don’t disintegrate. They’re very thick and hard to tear, so they protect the roof if the actual roofing material isn’t there to cover it anymore.

Q: How does your GAF warranty work?
A: We register the warranty with GAF so they have something in hand when we finish the job. After your roofing project is complete, GAF will mail you the actual warranty certificate. The warranty is transferable, so if you sell your home within the 25-year warranty period, it just gets transferred to the new owner.

Q: How can I make sure my roof lasts as long as possible?
A: It’s all about maintenance. For example, having leaves and debris removed by a professional will prevent rot and other problems with your roof. Pooling water and trapped moisture caused by collected debris will eventually break down the shingles and roof tiles, which can cause irreparable damage.

Michael Davis: A Long Way to the Top

By James Florence, Diamond Certified Resource Reporter

GALT — Michael Davis has been in the roofing trade since he was a teenager. Looking back, he credits his early initiation to a family friend in the industry. “My godfather owns a roofing company,” he recounts. “My dad and my brother both worked for him, so naturally I ended up there as well. I was 14 years old when I started and that’s where I received all my training. Basically, I fell in love with the trade and I’ve been involved ever since.”

More than two decades after beginning his career, Michael finally made the transition from employee to owner. “In 2017, my wife, Cintra, and I decided it was time to start our own business. I didn’t have much experience running a business, so I took some courses beforehand to educate myself and prepare for my new role. Three years later, it’s working out wonderfully. I consider starting this business one of my life’s greatest successes.”

Today, as owner of Davis Roofing Group, Michael says his favorite part of his job is the satisfaction of a job well done. “I like taking a project from start to finish and making the process as smooth as possible for the customer. When the job is complete, there’s a feeling of joy that comes from seeing them happy with the work we did.”

A resident of Galt (where he lives with Cintra and their three children), Michael spends much of his free time enjoying the outdoors. “We own six acres of property here in Galt, so we enjoy riding our dirt bikes and tending to our fruit trees, chickens, and ducks,” he details. “We also enjoy camping and other outdoor activities.”

When asked about the secret to his career success, Michael cites a strong sense of pride in his work. “I take a lot of pride in anything I do, whether I’m working around the house or installing a roof,” he explains. “When you take pride in what you do, I think that creates good energy, and people feed off that energy.” He also emphasizes the importance of honesty. “When I call a service provider about a problem I don’t know anything about, I expect them to be honest and very thorough with me. That’s exactly what I try to do for the customers we serve, and I think they appreciate it.”

When asked the first thing he’d do if he were to retire tomorrow, Michael says he’d hit the open road. “I’d buy an RV and travel the country. However, I don’t plan on ever fully retiring—I’ll probably always have my hands involved in the business. Ideally, there will be a time when I can walk away and leave it for my kids to run. It’s a family-run business, and I’d like to keep it that way.”

  • Save Money by Maintaining Your Roof

GALT — Roof maintenance is one of the best ways for homeowners to save money over time. After all, it’s a lot easier and less expensive to maintain a roof than it is to replace one. And when a roof isn’t properly maintained, it typically needs to be replaced a lot sooner than anticipated.

Roof maintenance is important because most roofs have “trouble areas” that require ongoing attention. One of these areas is valleys—intersections where two sections of the roof slope down to meet each other. Debris tends to collect in valleys, and if it isn’t routinely cleared out, it can hinder the roof’s natural drainage and cause water to collect. Over time, this condition can lead to problems like rot and leaks.

Another vulnerable aspect of a roof is pipe jacks—holes where plumbing and exhaust pipes come out the top of the roof. These pipes typically have rubber seals to protect against moisture intrusion, but over time, sunlight can damage them. When these seals are compromised, water may be able to get beneath the roof and compromise its integrity.

When left undetected, the damage caused by these types of issues can cost a lot of money. That’s why it’s wise to have your roof inspected every two to three years. A professional roofer will be able to spot such issues and address them before they develop into bigger, more expensive ones.

    Complete Video Transcription

GALT — Michael Davis: Our recommendation to all homeowners out there would be to maintenance your roof. It is a lot easier and cheaper to maintenance your roof than it is to replace the roof. Typical things that you’ll look for in roof maintenance is if you have a lot of valley build-up debris, where the two sides of a roof meet, valleys are vulnerable spots. Roof jacks are horrible spots. Once again, it’s a lot cheaper to maintenance a roof than it is to replace a roof, so we always recommend that you have your roof looked at every two to three years for roof maintenance. It is a lot less money to maintenance a roof than it is to replace a roof or do to extensive roof repairs.

They are incredibly professional. They cleaned up the jobsite everyday, and if I had a question or wanted them to look at something, they would be right here.

They are the best roofing company I have ever used. Our neighbors have used two other roofers and then used Davis. They have a complex roof and had issues with shingles being stripped off in the wind and having to have them repeatedly come back to fix it. Once they used Davis, even with the high winds, they have not lost one shingle. It has been about 3 years and it still looks as good as the day they installed it.
