Nick Capurro, Owner

Majestic Painters provides a complete range of interior and exterior painting services for residential and commercial clients throughout Alameda County. The company takes a full-service approach to painting that allows it to handle every step of the painting process, from preparing and priming surfaces to conducting post-painting inspections and cleanup. It’s also qualified to repair sheet rock and textural imperfections, remove popcorn ceilings, and more.

Owner Nick Capurro says much of Majestic Painters’ success is due to its highly skilled painters, all of whom are trained to use industry-best techniques and materials. “Our painters are clean, courteous, efficient and professional. They know exactly how much paint it will take to complete each job, and their lines are incredibly straight. Regardless of the size of the project, we guarantee quality results.”

Majestic Painters also provides free color consultation services, which Mr. Capurro says is important for helping clients control their budgets and expedite the painting process. “We bring our professional color consultant right to our customers’ homes, which means they don’t need to go to paint stores or guess which colors will work best. Once we determine the right color for a customer’s home, we’ll apply a sample and make sure they’re 100 percent certain before moving forward.”

Comparative Summary

Maintaining customer satisfaction is a crucial aspect of any business, but it’s even more important for painting companies that have earned the prestigious Diamond Certified award. For Majestic Painters, the key to achieving and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction is simple: take an honest approach to each job and focus on providing results that exceed the customer’s expectations. “Simply put, we take the time to do every job right the first time,” says owner Nick Capurro. “From the preparation work to the finishing touches, everything we do is geared toward creating high-quality results.”

Majestic Painters has been providing interior and exterior painting services for residential and commercial clients throughout Alameda County since 2006. The company’s full-service approach allows it to handle every step of the painting process, from preparing and priming surfaces to conducting post-job inspections and clean-up. It also has the in-house capabilities to remove popcorn ceilings, repair sheet rock and textural imperfections, and more.

Unlike less experienced painting companies that rely of subcontractors or day laborers to finish certain aspects of customers’ projects, Majestic Painters maintains its own crew of permanent employees who are dedicated to providing every job with high-quality painting services and customer service. “Each painter focuses specifically on a single task, whether it’s interior painting, exterior painting or texturing,” explains Mr. Capurro. “This allows us to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction throughout every phase of our work.”

Another distinguishing attribute of Majestic Painters is its detail-oriented approach to the painting process, which includes taking the time to properly prepare surfaces and implementing industry-best application methods. “We’re not one of those companies that spray a house in one hour,” says Mr. Capurro. “Our customers like seeing the work as it progresses. When they witness how much care goes into their paint jobs and how meticulous we are about our work, they know it’s being done the right way.”

Industry Info

If you want to get the best value on a house painting project, make sure you do your homework. Adding new paint to the exterior of your home doesn’t just create a pretty façade; it also helps protect the entire structure against weather, pests and general damage. Some homeowners are tempted to save money by hiring painting companies that advertise cheap rates, but according to Nick Capurro, owner of Majestic Painters in Livermore, that can actually cost you more money in the long run. “Cheap paint and low-quality work generally means the job won’t look as good or last as long,” he says. “You’ll have to repair sooner, which costs more than if you’d just hired a quality painter in the first place.”

To get the best deal on a painting project, Mr. Capurro says it all comes down to preparation work, quality paint and skilled painters. Consider the following tips and information:

Good preparation work
Painting experts agree that better preparation means better application and a longer lasting finish. “You should find a company that power washes, caulks joints, fixes damaged spots, replaces rusted nails, scrapes loose paint, and puts down plastic and tape,” says Mr. Capurro. “Those types of preparation steps will really help the overall quality of the job.”

Quality paint
Inexperienced painting companies often purchase paint for $8 to $12 a gallon, and while these products might be the right color, they often aren’t high-quality enough to last. “You really get what you pay for with paint,” says Mr. Capurro. “Forty dollars a gallon might sound expensive, but that paint has better binders, UV properties and water repellency, so it’ll last much longer than cheaper paint.”

Skilled painters
It takes a professional painter to get professional results, so think twice before trusting your painting job to a company that hires day laborers or part-time painters. “Year-round, permanent employees are usually more skillful and dedicated than temporary workers,” says Mr. Capurro. “If a company has a vested interest in its employees, it creates a better environment for everyone, including its customers.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long will it take to paint my house?

A: It depends on the size of your home, but most house painting jobs take three to four days to complete. We can do it faster if you’re on a tight schedule, but we prefer to have a few days so we can take our time and do the work right.

Q: What kind of paint do you use?

A: We use paints made by Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore—they’re quality products that perform well. We can use other brands as well if you’d prefer something specific.

Q: How will you prepare my home for painting?

A: If it’s an exterior job, we’ll power wash your house, scrape away any loose paint, caulk the joints and windows, fix rusted nails, cover the windows with plastic, and remove exterior lights and door handles. We can also paint meter boxes, utility boxes and cable wires if you want.

Q: Are your painters trustworthy?

A: Yes. Our painters are professional, full-time employees who work for us year-round. They’re highly skilled and loyal to both our company and our customers.

Q: Do you give cash discounts?

A: Some companies overprice their jobs so they can give cash discounts, but we always price our jobs fairly from the very beginning, so you can trust that our work is good.

DIAMOND CERTIFIED EXPERT CONTRIBUTOR ADVICE & TIPS FROM Nick Capurro

Expert CONTRIBUTOR PROFILE

Nick Capurro: Majestic Aspirations

By James Florence, Diamond Certified Resource Reporter

LIVERMORE — Following a tumultuous career in high-tech sales, Nick Capurro was eventually able to find a more stable—not to mention colorful—livelihood. “I’d been downsized several times while working in high-tech sales,” he says. “It was the same scenario each time: the company would build up the sales until the time was right, then they’d get rid of as many people as they could and the president would sell. That happened to me three times in two years.”

Fed up with the erratic nature of his position, Nick decided to try something new and started running a temp agency office, where he stumbled upon an unforeseen opportunity. “I was working with a painting company, trying to find them an administrative assistant, when I realized the position might be a good fit for me,” he explains. “After all, I liked working with my hands, and painting seemed like a steady industry to get involved in. I applied for the position and was hired. After gaining a few years’ worth of experience, I started a painting franchise. Eventually, I broke off and founded my own company.”

Today, as owner of Majestic Painters, Nick says his favorite part of his job is being a hands-on owner. “I currently have six crews going, so I like visiting the jobsites, looking things over and talking to the customers. I also like being my own boss—after years of taking orders, it’s nice to be the one giving them for a change!”

A resident of Livermore (where he lives with his wife, Amber, and his children, Evan and Emily), Nick appreciates the town’s unique personality. “One thing I really like about Livermore is that the bulk of downtown commerce is owned by members of the community, not a bunch of faceless franchises. My wife and I know the owners of almost every downtown establishment, so it’s neat to have that close connection to the local business community, as well as the community in general.”

Outside of work, Nick enjoys activities like traveling and spending time with family. “Both of my kids are involved in extracurricular activities—my son plays football and my daughter rides horses—so I regularly attend their events,” he says. “I also travel as often as I can. That’s probably my favorite pastime: just seeing and experiencing different parts of the world.” Nick also enjoys cooking, tackling home improvement projects and watching sports on TV.

In regard to a professional philosophy, Nick believes in doing a quality job, regardless of the cost. “I always try to do the job right without worrying about the economic consequences,” he affirms. “If I see a mistake, I make sure it’s redone, even if the client doesn’t see it. I don’t care if we end up losing money on the job; I just want to do the absolute best we can, every time.”

When asked the first thing he’d do if he could retire tomorrow, Nick says he’d see some more of the world. “I’ve done a lot of traveling, but there are still a lot of countries I haven’t yet visited. So, if I retired tomorrow, I’d probably jump on a plane to Italy, Costa Rica or Brazil—all on my short list of places I want to see.”

  • Two Types of Caulking

LIVERMORE — When it comes to doing home maintenance, many homeowners mistakenly think all caulking is basically the same. In reality, there are two types of caulking, each of which has very different properties and applications. Interior caulking (typically an acrylic latex product) is used for sealing things like sinks, cabinets and flooring, while exterior caulking (typically a silicone product) is used for sealing things like exterior windows, siding, masonry and wood features.

Due to the specific properties of each type of caulking, it’s important to use the right product for the application you’re undertaking. For example, exterior caulking contains elements that make it better suited to withstand the elements, like UV inhibitors that reinforce it against sun damage. Meanwhile, unlike its exterior counterpart, interior caulking is paintable, which can be a crucial attribute when sealing things like cabinetry and flooring. In any case, prior to sealing an area inside or outside of your home, double-check that you’re using the correct product to prevent any issues.

  • Video: Two Kinds of Caulking

    Complete Video Transcription

LIVERMORE — Host, Sarah Rutan: Prior to sealing an area of your home, make sure you’re using the appropriate type of caulking for the application. Today we’re in Livermore with Diamond Certified Expert Contributor Nick Capurro of Majestic Painters to learn more.

Diamond Certified Expert Contributor, Nick Capurro: Hello. A common question I get from clients is what type of caulking should they use to touch up their house or fill gaps and seams. There’s two types of caulking. There is interior caulking and exterior caulking. They are clearly labeled on the package when you go to the store. Interior caulking is for things like around sinks and cabinets and flooring. Exterior caulking is for joints and either masonry or in wood. The other big deal about caulking is some are paintable and some are not paintable. You do not want to use not paintable caulking on the exterior of your home. That is only for around faucets and sinks.
